Getting Started: How to Join Your University on ChamberOS

The two ways to get verified into your university, cohort links and access requests, plus what to do if a link fails.

New to ChamberOS? The first thing to do is join your university. Once you are in, you can see your class timetable, join a chamber, and vote in elections. This guide shows you how, step by step.

Why you join a university first

ChamberOS keeps every university and class separate. That way, the timetable, notices, and elections you see are always your own. Joining your university is what puts you in the right place, and you only do it once.

There are two ways to join: with an invite link, or by asking to join. Most people use a link.

An invite link does the work for you. You tap it, and you land in the app already set up. There are two kinds.

If your class is already on ChamberOS, your class rep has a link for your year. This is the best one to use, because it fills in your faculty and year for you.

  1. Ask your rep for the link, or look in your class group chat.
  2. Tap it. The app opens on the setup screen.
  3. Your university, faculty, and year are already filled in. Add the rest of your details and you are done.

You cannot end up in the wrong class this way. If you tap a link for a different year, the app tells you and points you to the right one.

Faculty admins can send out links too. They work the same way. Tap it, check the setup screen, and continue.

The other way: ask to join

No link? You can ask to join yourself.

  1. Open ChamberOS and sign in.
  2. On the setup screen, find and pick your university.
  3. Choose your faculty and year. Add your matric number if you have one, since it helps the admin find you faster.
  4. Send your request.

A faculty admin looks at your request and sends you a personal invite. If your faculty is not on ChamberOS yet, your request waits in line, and you get a message the moment it opens.

What you can do once you are in

As soon as your university is set, more of the app opens up:

  • Your class timetable and today's lectures show in the planner.
  • Your notices start arriving.
  • You can look through chambers and ask to join one.

Two things need a little more. Joining a chamber needs a yes from a chamber admin. Voting needs your matric number. Both have their own guides.

If something goes wrong

I tapped a link but nothing happened. The link may be old, full, or switched off. When that happens, the app turns your tap into a ready made request instead, so you are never stuck. Send it, and an admin follows up.

The link is for a different year. That link is for another class. Ask your own rep for your year's link. If your class has no rep yet, an admin needs to pick one first, and until then you can ask to join instead.

I picked the wrong university. Once you are in one university, a link cannot move you to another. Message your faculty admin if you joined the wrong one.
